Azusa Pacific Advances to Title Match for Second Consecutive Year with 1-0 Victory over William Jewell

Brandon Stirm scored the game-winning goal in the 56th minute leading APU to its second consecutive appearance in the NAIA National Championship match

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.Brandon Stirm’s goal midway through the second half gave No. 8 Azusa Pacific University a 1-0 victory over No. 12 William Jewell College in the semifinals of the 2006 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship Monday (Nov. 20) evening at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.

The Cougars improved to 17-3-3 and will make their second consecutive trip to the 7 p.m. title match Tuesday (Nov. 21) where they will face the winner of other semifinal match between No. 3 Webber International University and No. 2 Graceland University. The Cardinals ended their season at 18-3-3.

Stirm’s goal was a set piece off a free kick from 25 yards out as he curved the ball into the top of the net over the head of William Jewell’s goalkeeper Andy Shields.
