William Carey Tops Embry-Riddle, 3-1

Daytona Beach, Fla. – The final match of the day featured the No. 15 seed William Carey (Miss.) Lady Crusaders against the Eagles of Embry-Riddle (Fla.), the tournament host school. The game would determine the eighth and final team to advance to the Quarterfinals of the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship.

William Carey got on the scoreboard first on a goal by Shannon Steffen. Embry-Riddle evened the score at 1-1 when Elina Johansson took a pass from Cecile Henriksen and put it in the back of the net with just over three minutes to go in the half.

William Carey reclaimed the lead in the 58th minute on a goal by freshman midfielder Abby Johnson. Shannon Steffen increased the lead to 3-1 with her second goal in the 76th minute with an assist from Aimi Beresford.

William Carey improves to 16-3-1 on the year while Embry-Riddle ends their season at 8-9.

The Lady Crusaders advance to the Quarterfinals and will play Trinity Christian (Ill.) at 7 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
