Trinity Christian Topples California Baptist, 1-0

Allison Doyle
Daytona Beach, Fla. – The third game of the day saw No. 7 seed Cal Baptist battle No. 10 seed Trinity Christian (Ill.) to decide who would move on to the Quarterfinals of the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship.

Fans didn’t have to wait long to see a goal as Trinity Christian freshman Allison Doyle scored less than two minutes into the contest, giving the Trolls a quick 1-0 lead. They would carry that lead into the half.

Neither team was able to score a goal in the second half. Trinity Christian, making their first ever appearance in the National Championships, became the first lower seed in this year’s tournament to defeat a higher seed.

Trinity Christian improves to 22-1 on the year while Cal Baptist ends the season at 16-5-1.

The Trolls advance to the Quarterfinals and will play the winner of No. 15 William Carey (Miss.) and host school Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
