Late Goal Gives Northwood 2-1 Win Over William Jewell

Katya Salguero
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Katya Salguero scored with under five minutes left to give the 11th-seeded Northwood women's soccer team a 2-1 win over No. 6 William Jewell (16-3), Friday at the NAIA National Championship. The Seahawks (15-1) will face No. 3 Azusa Pacific in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

William Jewell found themselves at a disadvantage early as Jessica Littell received a red card with less 16 minutes left in the first half.

With the time winding down in the first half Sofia Soras took a shot that was going just wide of the goal, but in an effort to clear the ball, William Jewell's Erica Greco pushed it into her own net, giving Northwood a one-goal advantage.

Greco redeemed herself in the second half when she collected a ball that bounced through the Northwood defense and deposited it into the top right corner to tie the game with just under seven minutes left in the game.

Just three minutes later Lene Bjerkeli played ball through to Katya Salguero who took a few quick touches and rifled the game-winner past the Cardinals' keeper Rebecca Ewing to send her team into Saturday's quarterfinal.
