Azusa Pacific Ends Northwood (Fla.)'s Run at Nationals 3-1

Steven Lenhart scored two goals and assisted on another leading Azusa Pacific into the semifinals for the second consecutive year
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ; Steven Lenhart scored twice and assisted on another as No. 8 Azusa Pacific University ended No. 17 Northwood (Fla.) University;s Cinderella run with a 3-1 victory in a quarterfinal match of the 2006 NAIA Men;s Soccer National Championship Saturday (Nov. 18) evening at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.

The Cougars improved to 16-3-3 overall and will face No. 12 William Jewell College in a 6 p.m. semifinal contest Monday (Nov. 20). It is the second consecutive year the Cougars have advanced to the final four. The Seahawks, who defeated No. 1 Auburn University Montgomery 3-2 in the second round, ended their season at 10-11-2.

Azusa Pacific took a 1-0 lead at the 15:17 mark when Sven Simon served it to Lenhart, who settled with his chest and flicked it past Northwood goalkeeper Dustin Vrooman. The two switched roles 89 seconds later when Lenhart fed Simon to give the Cougars a 2-0 advantage. Lenhart scored Azusa Pacific;s final goal off a cross from Beau Hayden at the 59:32 mark.

Northwood got its lone goal at the 76:41 mark from Daniel Gocic off an assist from Jere Kolehainen.
