Dr. Richard W. Bloom is Dean, College of Arts and Sciences; Professor, Psychology, Social Thought, and Global Security and Intelligence Studies at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, AZ. Dr. Bloom has worked for the United States Government as an intelligence operations manager, intelligence analyst, psychological operations planner, special planner, politico-military planner, and military clinical psychologist.
He is a (1) past president of the Military Psychology Division of the American Psychological Association; (2) Fellow of the Society of Air Force Clinical Psychologists, the American Academy of Clinical Psychology, the Society of Personality Assessment, and the Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces and Society; (3) Vice Chair of the Aviation Security and Emergency Management Task Force, Transportation Research Board; (4) member of the Governor of Arizona's Homeland Security Coordinating Council and of the Association for Intelligence Officers.
He carries out and reviews applied research, carries out policy analysis, and provides consultation services on aviation intelligence and security systems; profiling of aviation security threat; aviation security threat assessment; terrorism, antiterrorism, and counterterrorism; threat, vulnerability, and risk assessment; intelligence collection and analysis, covert action, and counterintelligence; personnel security; and the psychology of information warfare. He also teaches courses including the clinical, political, philosophical, and theoretical psychologies. He currently is working on critiques of post-modernism and post-structuralism in the contexts of psychological assessment and interpretation and of historical, biographical and autobiographical narrative.
