New Library Director: Anne Marie Casey
Please join us in welcoming Anne Marie Casey as our new Library Director. Anne Marie Casey comes to us from Central Michigan University where she was the Associate Dean of Libraries. She has extensive experience with off-campus library services and is in the dissertation phase of obtaining a Ph.D. in Managerial Leadership in the Information Professions from Simmons College, Boston, Mass.

New Library Website!

Starbucks has opened!
The new Starbucks, next to the front entrance of the Library, has opened for a sneak preview! They are currently open Monday-Friday from 7 am - 2 pm, and closed on Saturdays and Sundays. The Grand Opening will be on August 25th, and then the store hours will be Monday-Friday from 7 am - 11 pm.

Embry-Riddle Author Wins Florida Book Award
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Thomas Cavanagh has won the Gold Medal for Popular Fiction in the 2007 Florida Book Awards. The award recognizes Cavanagh's Orlando-based crime novel Head Games, which features a cynical private investigator, a missing member of a popular boy band, and a brain tumor named Bob.

Published by St. Martin's Press, Head Games was critically acclaimed, including being named a 2007 "Killer Book" by the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association, receiving a starred review in Library Journal, and being compared to authors such as Carl Hiaasen, Donald Westlake, and Peter Abrahams. Check out this book for yourself!

Sad News from the Hunt Library
We are sad to announce that Suzan Yozgat, Acquisitions Librarian for the Hunt Library, passed away Tuesday, February 19, after a long battle with cancer.

The Acquisitions Librarian has an important role as that position is responsible for spearheading the collection development process for the library's books/documents collection. Additionally, Suzan served on the Curriculum Development committee and was responsible for ensuring resources were available for new degree programs. Suzan has been a part of the Hunt Library team since 2000. Prior to joining Embry-Riddle, she worked as a librarian with the Volusia County Library System for many years.

Suzan is survived by her husband Chris Quarles, her father, a brother, a sister and her beloved dog, Dylan.

New Database: Transportation Research Records
Provides complete (full text) access to the full compilation of papers published in the Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board (TRR Journal). TRB's journal contains technical papers peer-reviewed by TRB committee members. Included are selected papers from the TRB Annual Meetings, along with some papers from other sources and conferences.

Head Games
Thomas Cavanagh, Director of Online Course Design for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Worldwide, has released a new mystery novel entitled HEAD GAMES. From publisher St. Martin's Press, the novel is based in Central Florida and is the darkly humorous tale of a terminally ill man's search for a missing member of a popular boy band. This book is available in the Library. Check the Catalog for availability.

A number of new, full-text books have been added to the xreferplus database. New titles include: Astronomy Encyclopedia, Atlas of the Universe, Chambers Film Factfinder, Guide to Gems, Guide to Stars and Planets, Guide to the Oceans, and McGraw-Hill Concise Encyclopedia of Science and Technology.

Scientific American Archive Online provides full-text access to the entire editorial contents of Scientific American Magazine including special issues such as Scientific American Mind, Scientific American Presents, and Scientific Special Edition. The issues are presented in PDF format, which maintains the integrity of the printed page with all the graphics.

New Database: MagillOnLiterature Plus
MagillOnLiterature Plus provides complete full-text access to editorially reviewed critical analyses, brief plot summaries, and extended character profiles covering works by long and short fiction writers, poets, dramatists, essayists, and philosophers as well as biographical essays on more than 3,500 different authors, including up-to-date lists of each author's principal works. In addition, genre-driven overview essays provide details about important literary genres, time periods, and national literatures.

Tornado Damage
The tornado on Christmas Day damaged portions of the Hunt Library building, but the public areas were unaffected and we are open for business. One section of shelving on the second floor was damaged and over 10,000 books in the Economics and Sociology area (Call numbers HE9814 - HX) had to be removed from the damaged area. These books are currently being cleaned, sorted, and assessed for permanent damage, and they will be returned to circulation as quickly as possible.
