Answers

  1. Where is the ILL Request form?

There are two forms - one for Daytona Beach patrons and one for Worldwide patrons. [Back to Top]

  2. Are there any restrictions on materials that will be sent to me through ILL?

Some lending libraries may stipulate for in-house use only or no renewals. These restrictions are clearly marked on the book label, and must be adhered to. [Back to Top]

  3. Can I order dissertations/theses through ILL?

The Hunt Library Interlibrary Loan (ILL) department will make every attempt to borrow theses and dissertations from the sponsoring institutions, or from any other institutions we identify as owning them. Unfortunately most institutions simply do not loan these items. In many instances regarding dissertations, there is only one source from which to borrow - the school where the work was completed. As a rule, many libraries only keep one archival copy of the work (that does not circulate) and one copy that can circulate. If there is not a second copy, or if that copy is checked out, it will not be available to borrow via interlibrary loan. [Back to Top]

  4. Can I request textbooks to be used during a semester from ILL?

No. The loan periods for ILL materials do not allow for patrons to keep them for an entire semester. In addition, the same textbooks used here may also be in high demand at the lending institution. [Back to Top]

  5. Do I need to locate a library that owns the material I need before I request it through ILL?

No. You only have to specify the item that you want to request. We have many resources to find locations for material. [Back to Top]

  6. How are ILL articles delivered to Daytona Beach patrons?

If articles are paper copies sent to us via mail, we will send them through inter-campus mail to your campus box. However, most articles now arrive through electronic transmissions which allows us to post them to a website. By using your email address and a specific pin number assigned to you, you can access these articles for a two-week period of time once they arrive. Due to the nature of these postings, we recommend that you only provide us with one email address in order to expedite your request. For more information, see the FAQ section on Web Document Delivery. [Back to Top]

  7. How does the ILL department find the materials?

We use the WorldCat online database, containing the holdings of nearly 9,000 libraries worldwide, to locate and request most materials. [Back to Top]

  8. How will I know when my ILL materials come in?

We send out email notifications to Daytona Beach patrons letting you know that your material has arrived and where you can pick it up (typically at the Circulation Desk). Some notifications for journal articles will direct you to a web site where you can view your articles online. If we receive paper copies of articles, we send them through Inter-campus mail. 9. Voyager indicates that the Hunt Library owns the material I need, but I can't find it. What should I do?

First, consult with a Reference Librarian. They can confirm the information that you received in Voyager. If the material cannot be found, then they will direct you to the Circulation Desk in order to make a formal request for the material to be searched for. We recommend not putting in an ILL request for a lost item until the Circulation Department has conducted a thorough search and the status has been changed to Lost. [Back to Top]

  10. What are the book labels on the front of the book I received from ILL?

A book label identifying it as an Interlibrary Loan book gives the due date and any other conditions set by the lending library is placed on each item. This label should not be removed. The due date on the book label is the date by which you are to return the book. [Back to Top]

  11. What if I am submitting ILL requests for a faculty member?

When you are submitting requests for articles for a faculty member, please use the forms that say "Graduate assistant requesting on behalf of faculty." These forms allow the student to provide faculty information. Please fill out the form completely and specify where the material should be delivered. It is important that you use the same email address for all interlibrary loan requests. If you switch email addresses when you are requesting, we will continue to use the first email address that you provided. [Back to Top]

  12. What if the library doesn't own the books I need?

  13. What is the 'needed by' date on the ILL form?

When submitting a request, we require patrons to supply a date so that we know when the materials are needed. If the material is needed within a short period of time, our department strives to find libraries that can lend to us quickly. We cannot always guarantee we can acquire ILL materials by your required date, but it is a great help to us during our borrowing process. [Back to Top]

  14. What is the overdue policy on ILL materials?

If you do not return the materials by the due date specified on the book label, you will receive an overdue notice. The Interlibrary Loan department does not charge fines for overdue material at this time, however we will revoke a patron's ILL privileges if the book is not properly renewed or returned on time. [Back to Top]

  15. Where do I return ILL materials?

Books can be returned at the Circulation Desk. Photocopies are yours to keep. [Back to Top]

  16. Will the ILL Department fill in-house (Hunt Library-owned) requests?

We will inform you if Hunt Library owns the material that you are requesting through ILL, but it is your responsibility to acquire the items by visiting the library. We recommend visiting the Reference Desk to ensure that the materials requested are not owned by Hunt Library. The ILL department cannot pull books or make photocopies for in-house requests.
